Thoughts on Monk Mode and Notion

Hey there!

Welcome to my newsletter on Notion Tips & Tricks I’m so excited that you are here with me!

This week on my commute from the office I was listing to the Esspresso Hour from Dickie Bush and Nicolas Cole where they talked about going into “Monk Mode” and just going full force and getting stuff done.

If you haven’t watched/listened to it I highly recommend it

What stuck with me in this episode were three key points (and don’t worry I’ll bring this back to Notion in just a second).

  1. Strip away all the extra stuff

  2. Always be learning

  3. Limiting beliefs are holding you back

Strip away all the extra stuff

This doesn’t only apply to going in to monk mode to get things done, but when you’re building out a space, page or database in Notion you should always be looking for what to remove.

Sure its fun to build all the things and have all the properties, but are you just creating unnecessary overhead or complication? You can always add things in later. So take a moment to think about what are the extras that you don’t really need and make your space a little easier to work with.

Always be learning

There is always something more to learn. Even after years of working with Notion, there is going to be something you don’t know.

And thats okay.

Having a growth mindset and embracing what you don’t know is part of life. There is always room to grow, something to learn and new features that can make your life easier to better. Heck just this week Notion released project management features that we all need to better understand.

Limiting beliefs are holding you back

In the podcast, Dickie and Cole talked about how difficult it was for Dickie to just go and spend money on the business to make the business better and more profitable. If you can release the limiting beliefs that are holding you back you can shoot for the moon.

Just because you think something should be done or built a certain way doesn’t mean it has to. Building on the always be learning idea, don’t let you limiting beliefs stand in your way of doing great work.

That’s it for this week, I’ll see you in the next edition.
